Description

For sale we have an extremely rare, and in our opinion, very desirable one owner ca. 1978 Tama TC-15 Classical Guitar, made in Japan, featuring all solid Jacaranda back and sides,  w/a ca. 1978 heavy duty travel case w/hygrometer,  in natural finish. Solid good condition, some scratches and signs of ownership, no repairs or abuse, freshly strung with Caprice brand strings w/a 12th fret action of 3.5mm, standard classical action, very playable. The vintage tuners were failing, we replaced/upgraded them with the proper size (39mm) Gotoh replacement tuners. A very special guitar that plays and sounds great, we think we have a more than fair price on it, and are very pleased to offer it to hopefully it’s next forever home. The TC15 (also referred to as TC-15) is an  Tama branded classical guitar model introduced by Hoshino Gakki for 1977, made until just 1979. It was produced by Hoshino in their in-house TAMA Seisakusho in Aichi, Japan. It is part of the TC series, and is a hand made instrument from what many consider to be one of the best Japan factories at that time. At the time, this was one of the most expensive guitars they made, costing more than it’s Indian Rosewood counterparts. In 1978, the MSRP on this guitar was $750. In 1979 it skyrocketed to $890 and then likely was discontinued for the high cost. At the time, that was Les Paul money.

The TC15 features a grand concert body shape with a solid solid cedar top on all solid, beautifully book matched ALL SOLID Jacaranda sides and back.  Jacaranda is a type of South American wood that was used to meet the needs for a high end replacement for Brazilian Rosewood when the harvesting of it was banned. Jacaranda in known to have similar qualities to Brazilian Rosewood.  Somewhat rare, costly (it costs significantly more than Indian Rosewood), and a very desired tonewood for high end guitar makers. The soundhole is round and trimmed with an intricate inlaid wood rosette. It has a mahogany and ebony neck with a 19-fret ebony fingerboard and a rosewood headstock overlay. Components include a non-compensated bone saddle in a polished rosewood bridge, a bone nut, and gold plated machine heads with pearloid buttons. We love vintage made in Japan, guitars, this one is a serious shop favorite.
