On consignment we have a Red Valley Mandolins AM Model A Type Center Hole mandolin with hard shell case in very good condition. #038 production number marked on the inner tag (see photo). Red Valley Mandolins are handcrafted in Boise, Idaho by James Wilson. For more information on this luthier, they maintain an active website. This guitar has been freshly set up with DR Rare .10 gauge strings and is ready to go with a 12th fret string action (top of fret crown to bottom of low G string of about 1.5mm with a nice taper down towards the 14th fret. This mandolin has an even and balanced voice suitable for folk or Irish styles, a pleasing and warm tone. A round, not boomy low end with nice sparkle on the top. Condition– as stated very good condition, no abuse or dings. Light wear to the top from seemingly gently use. Light fret wear up to the 6th fret, frets at 90% and play quite well. No fingerboard wear. No wear to the back of the neck. No rash on the back of the instrument. Please note that this mandolin does not have a truss rod, but plays quite well. The case has a ding in it (see photo) but serves this mandolin quite well.
Features– This is the original model of Red Valley Mandolins. The AM is made from figured maple and Sitka spruce, and features:
- Flat ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl dots
- Rosewood binding for the top
- Rosewood headstock veneer
- Bone nut 1 1/8″ or 1 1/4″ width
- Adjustable ebony bridge
- Red Valley ebony on brass tailpiece
